Influenced by repetitive and minimalist music and produced exclusively on basses, iCu‘s music plays with subtle textures and impressionist colours revealing a definitely “visual” quality. The compositions use repetition as a core structure in which melodies evolve and interlink with the suppleness of the most sensual ornaments. When released, “Useless” was critically acclaimed by the press which lead iCu to play as support act for Tortoise at Stuk (Leuven, Be) during their “Beacons Of Ancestorship” tour end 2009. Released in May 2009 with Nils Frahm (Erased Tapes) and Peter Broderick (Type / Bella Union / Erased Tapes).
“The first album of the Belgian Cyrille de Haes, aka iCu walks in the fileds of imaginary and is animated by cinematopgraphic impulses. “useLess” devotes the slow metamorphosis of minimalist melodies.” RifRaf Fr
“iCu gently punches repetitive, stripped and obsessive instrumental music. An album more than interesting from a micro label, Spank Me More Records, which deserves to be known!” Focus / L’Express
