“buy Broken City Heart”

A project born from 30 videos filmed in the huge construction site of the “galeries de la Toison d’or” in Brussels in May 2009. The album is an 18 minute piece created with the soundtracks of these videos to which were added a piano sample by Nils Frahm and some vibraphone samples. By using the metaphor of the city, Broken City Heart intends to explore the tensions between the will of permanence and the need for change to rebuild new things. It represents, in a dark ambient process, the moment of this change and the feelings linked to it.

Release Party in December 2009 with Ghost of Watari (sound by Yannick Franck/Y.E.R.M.O. idiosyncratics and visuals by Sabrina Harri) and Svarte Greiner (Norway – Type/Miasmah)

“Simple ideas executed well stand the test of time. Pierre de Muelenaere has sourced recordings taken from a construction site in the heart of Brussels and mixed them down into a soundscape both plausible and unfamiliar. One can easily imagine oneself moving through this urban landscape as much as any other, but the knob is turned just enough to make the walk slightly disorienting. What pushes this very short album – six pieces over less than eighteen minutes – out of straightforward soundscaping are the brief, incongruous appearances of a little vibraphone here and a lot of piano there (by the wonderful Nils Frahm)” (Sonomu.net)
